Hi everyone,

Thank you for following along on our journey! We’re excited to share the first of many updates about our foundation and book.

How the Brody the Brave Foundation supports preterm babies in low-income settings

In December last year, we launched our foundation alongside our children’s book, Brody the Brave: A Dragon’s Tale. Our mission is to raise funds and awareness to support preterm babies in low-income settings.

We were overwhelmed by the support we received from family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances around the world. Thank you to everyone who donated or purchased a copy of our book!

Since launching, we’ve sold more than 250 books and raised over EUR 8,000 to support neonatal care in low-resource environments. This means so much to us personally and it’s already helping to make an impact in the lives of preterm babies in Africa and Cuba.

Funding neonatal medical equipment to save babies’ lives

We have distributed funding to two key organisations working to improve outcomes for preterm babies:

  • mediCuba-Europa – a network of European NGOs supporting Cuba’s public healthcare system

  • Medical Aid International – an organisation providing healthcare solutions in low-resource settings, particularly across Africa

Supporting Neonatal Care at the hospital where Brody was born

With our contribution, alongside significant funding of their own, mediCuba-Europa has been able to deliver critical medical equipment to Hospital Materno José Ramón López Tabrane in Matanzas, Cuba, where our son Brody was born.

This includes a portable ultrasound machine, valued at over EUR 20,000, which was successfully delivered in January 2026. This equipment will support the diagnosis and treatment of hundreds of preterm babies.

As you’ve no doubt seen in the news, the overall situation in Cuba remains extremely challenging, and we will continue supporting the hospital wherever possible.

Neonatal Resuscitation Kits Across Africa

In partnership with Medical Aid International, we have funded reusable manual neonatal resuscitation kits and training materials.

These life-saving kits have been distributed to hospitals across multiple countries, including:

Angola, Uganda, Malawi, Kenya, Ghana, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Togo, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, and Tanzania.

These kits help healthcare workers provide immediate, life-saving support to newborn babies who struggle to breathe at birth.

What’s Next for the Brody the Brave Foundation?

While we’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far, our mission is just beginning.

This year, we will focus on expanding the availability of Brody the Brave: A Dragon’s Tale in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and South Africa. By reaching more readers, we aim to raise additional funds to support preterm babies and neonatal care globally.

If you’d like to support our work, please share our website with others who may be interested in making a difference.

With love,
Lauren & Marcel
